Cosmetic filings
Every compliant cosmetic carries a filing number on the pack. In China the format is province abbreviation + G Zhuang Wang Bei Zi + year + serial. Special cosmetics (sunscreen, whitening, hair dye) use Guo Zhuang Te Zi. Query path: National Medical Products Administration website → Cosmetics → Cosmetic Query, then enter the number or product name.
Medical device registrations
Class II and III device numbers follow province abbreviation + Xie Zhu Zhun + year + class + serial. Query path: NMPA → Medical Devices → Device Query. Results state the approved indications — critical, because promoting beyond them is a violation. A dressing approved "for non-chronic wounds" cannot be marketed as a daily hydrating sheet mask.

Worked example: VIRIBIO
Legal manufacturer: Guangzhou Weitai Biotechnology Co., Ltd., cosmetics production licence Yue Zhuang 20160036. Cosmetic-grade products have NMPA filing records; the two Class II dressings carry registration numbers with stated indications.
Why five minutes is worth it
Filing data is publicly mandated — anyone can check. "Does it have a filing" is therefore not a matter of trust but a verifiable fact. Be wary of any seller who tells you not to bother checking.
